Winston’s line of Boron XTR “extreme” rods may help improve your odds. These rods, designed for power, not delicacy, come fast and stiff. The Boron XTRs feature stiff tips and oversized snake and stripping guides so they can easily cast sinking lines and throw heavily weighted wind-resistant flies in the worst weather. The Boron XTRs use Boron in the butt section rather than graphite. Since Boron is eight times stronger and has a higher recovery rate than graphite, it adds strength and generates line speed by keeping the rod fast. The Boron XTR series comes only in three-piece rods from 6-weight up to 12-weight. | |
